A brief catch-up post: today we had our departmental open day. This involved opening the library (and library office) doors and treasures up to the rest of the RCN to give our colleagues from other areas the opportunity to see what we do, have guided tours of our exhibitions and register as library users. It was a wonderfully successful day and we had quite a few people come and visit us who wouldn’t normally. Of course, it had nothing at all to do with luring them in with the promise of free cake!
A lot of hard work went into this open day, with people baking cakes, selecting wonderful examples of our historical collection to show off and creating and printing leaflets and posters to get all employees into the library and involved. We even handed out goodie bags which had centenary pens, some choccies, leaflets and an RCN library quiz. Our screens were broadcasting live tweets from our Twitter page and demonstrating Summon (our catalogue search tool) in the nursing history room. The handling collection looked lovely and I can’t wait to see it jetting of to recruitment events.
Tomorrow we ourselves will be jetting off to our library and archives in Edinburgh. The excitement is real. We’ll let you know all about our trip. ‘Til then, adieu.
