About Us

Hello,

We’re the RCN Library and Heritage Centre Graduate Trainees for 2017/18 and over the next few months we’ll be documenting our year working at the RCN. We’re all recent graduates, new to library work and keen to share our experiences, particularly with others considering a career in the sector. Feel free to get in touch via the comments section and we hope you enjoy reading about our shenanigans.

Hi, I’m Oliver and I started my role as a Graduate Trainee at the RCN Library and Heritage centre in April. I studied Classical Civilisation at the University of Leeds, graduating in 2015. I chose this role due to the variety that it offers, the chance to work for an organization I truly believe, and to develop my skills in a sector I am truly passionate about.

IMG_2475   Hey! My name is Porshia and I am one of the newest Graduate Trainees at the RCN Library and Heritage Centre. I graduated from the University of Kent in July where I studied Ancient History.

I chose to work at the RCN Library and Heritage centre as I am keen to pursue a career in Librarianship and found that the Graduate Traineeship programme was perfect for me.

Hello, I’m Molly one of the Graduate Trainees. I work as part of the Events and Exhibitions team on the HLF Service Scrapbooks Project. The project focuses on ten World War One nurses and the wonderfully detailed scrapbooks they crated during the war. My role here is fantastic. Working on Service Scrapbooks allows me to practically apply my History degree whilst giving me leave to explore the skills l will need for a career in museum curation.

Hello, I’m Stephen and I joined the RCN Library and Heritage Centre as a Graduate Trainee in October 2017. I specifically work in the Customer Services team. Immediately before I applied to work at the RCN, I was studying International History at LSE. I earned my BA History degree in July 2017.  My colleagues encourage me to get involved in all areas of the Library and Archive service here. We are a friendly team and I hope that my year at the RCN will give me the work experience needed to study Information Management/ Librarianship at postgraduate level.
